March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the accomplishments of all the amazing women throughout history! Here are 7 different ways you can get involved:
Know your history and read-up on the current state.
Celebrate Women’s History Month by becoming more knowledgeable about the struggles and successes of women, past and present. Learning the history of women’s rights is a wonderful place to start.
Additionally, take some time to learn about the current state of affairs for women in the United States and around the world. This can include studying legislation that affects women, reading articles and studies about women’s issues, or following feminist bloggers or organizations on social media.
Support women-owned businesses and nonprofits.
Every day, more women are starting their own businesses, but they still represent the minority of business owners. You can support women-owned businesses by making an effort to buy from them instead of large corporations.
You can also donate to a women’s nonprofit working to empower women and girls worldwide or volunteer with organizations that help girls and women in need. Thrive Coworking is a women-owned business that supports other women-owned businesses. We encourage women to use our coworking space to network with their fellow female entrepreneurs. Stop in this month to see our special exhibit celebrating Women’s History Month!
Mentor other women.
Empowered women empower other women. If you have been fortunate enough to achieve success in your career or personal life, offer to become a mentor to a young woman who is just starting out.
This could involve sharing your skills, wisdom, and experience with a younger woman in your life or working with an organization that helps connect mentor pairs.
Take a moment to acknowledge a woman who has inspired you.
A simple thank you means so much. Acknowledge the women in your life who have supported and inspired you by sending them a message. This can be through a written letter or even just by telling them in person that you appreciate who they are and the impact they’ve had on your life.
Start a book club to celebrate women authors.
Get together with some friends and start a monthly book club focused on reading books by women authors. This is a great way to support women in the literary world, discuss important women’s issues, and connect with other women while enjoying some fantastic reads.
Make your celebrations intersectional.
Diversity is key when it comes to celebrating women. Intersectionality acknowledges that women experience discrimination in different ways based on their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and more. When planning your Women’s History Month celebrations, strive to make them inclusive by welcoming all women, including nonbinary, transgender, genderfluid, and members of the LGTBQIA+ community.
Host a special event with guest speakers.
If you have the opportunity, host an event at your school or workplace to commemorate Women’s History Month. You can invite a guest speaker from your industry to share their experiences and knowledge or put together a panel of women to discuss various topics related to women in the workforce.
