There’s a very specific kind of stuck that doesn’t look dramatic from the outside.
You’re not doing nothing. You’re “thinking.” Researching. Opening 14 tabs like you’re about to solve your entire life… and then closing all of them because suddenly none of it feels right.
Maybe you reorganize your to-do list. Again. Maybe you decide you need a better plan before you start.
It feels productive.
It’s not.
That’s uncertainty doing its thing – convincing you that clarity has to come first, and until it does, you should just… hover.
Respectfully, no.
Clarity is not the starting point (I know, rude)
We’ve all bought into this idea:
Once I know exactly what I’m doing, then I’ll start.
But clarity is not step one. It’s the reward you get after you start.
Because your brain can only do so much in theory. At some point, it needs real data:
- What actually works
- What feels off
- What you like (and what you definitely do not)
You don’t get that from thinking harder. You get that from doing literally anything.
Clarity is a side effect. Not a prerequisite.
Why you’re stuck (and no, it’s not because you’re lazy)
If you’re in this weird limbo right now, it’s usually one of these:
- You’re trying to make the perfect decision upfront
- You have too many options and your brain said “absolutely not”
- You’re afraid of wasting time on the wrong thing
- You’re waiting to feel confident before you move
All valid. Also… none of these create momentum.
Because momentum doesn’t come from having your life figured out. It comes from movement. Even slightly chaotic, “idk if this is right but let’s see” movement.
The move: lower the bar (like… aggressively)
You’re stuck because the thing you think you need to do is way too big.
“Figure out my next career move.”
“Build a full content strategy.”
“Launch something.”
Be serious.
That’s not a starting point, that’s a 6-week spiral waiting to happen.
Instead, shrink it until it feels almost dumb:
- Send one email
- Write a rough, slightly chaotic outline
- Spend 20 minutes researching instead of 2 hours spiraling
- Text one person
- Try one version of the idea
We are not going for impressive. We are going for done.
There’s a moment in the latest Everything In Between episode where Lynne and Braelyn talk about this in a completely different context, but it hits the same nerve.
They were saying how lately, life has felt a little heavier – and how easy it’s been to push creativity to the side because of it. Not intentionally. Just… it slips.
And instead of trying to force it back perfectly, they’re easing into it. No pressure. No expectations. Just small ways of reconnecting with it again.
Not because it needs to be productive or impressive. But because it actually feels necessary.
That’s the same energy here. You don’t need a big, perfect reset. You just need a small way back in.
Momentum is low-key… kind of boring at first
Here’s the part no one puts in the aesthetic productivity reels:
Momentum doesn’t feel exciting in the beginning. It feels small. Uneventful. Slightly underwhelming.
Like, “that’s it?”
Yes. That’s it.
But behind the scenes, a few important things are happening:
- You’re lowering resistance
- You’re proving to yourself that you can actually start
- You’re getting real feedback (aka where clarity comes from)
- You’re building consistency without burning out
And then –suddenly– you’re not stuck anymore.
Not because you had a breakthrough moment. But because you kept moving.
A simple way to get unstuck (today, not “someday”)
If everything feels unclear right now, try this:
1. Pick a direction (it does not have to be perfect)
Think of it as a “let’s see what happens” decision.
2. Choose the smallest possible next step
If it feels big, it’s too big. Shrink it again.
3. Set a 20–30 minute timer
You’re not committing your entire life to this. Just a small window.
4. Stop before you’re exhausted
This is key. Leave a little gas in the tank so it’s easier to come back.
5. Do it again tomorrow (before your brain starts overthinking it)
Consistency > intensity. Every time.
Quick reality check
Waiting for clarity feels safe. It also keeps you exactly where you are.
Taking small action feels a little chaotic. But it’s the only thing that actually moves anything forward.
So if you’ve been in your head lately, here’s your sign:
Close a few tabs. Pick something. Move.
Even if it’s a little messy. Even if you’re not 100% sure.
Honestly, especially then.
One more thing
You don’t need to feel ready.
You don’t need a perfect plan.
You don’t need a full personality transformation.
You just need one small step.
Because momentum doesn’t show up when everything is clear.
It shows up when you decide to start anyway.
