I’m a firm believer in working in-tune with the seasons, mostly because it helps me to remain present and mindful. Fall is all about harvest, gratitude and letting go. It’s a great time to take stock of the year—what we’ve accomplished, what we have yet to finish and, also, realistically, what we should just hold off on until the New Year. (No, you don’t need to finish everything by Dec. 31, trust me.)

Come fall, I’m almost 100 percent in harvesting mode. In my business, that looks like nurturing my existing client relationships and projects (not starting anything new, if life allows), revisiting milestones to see what needs to be done before my annual holiday break, and making handwritten edits on all of my plans for ideas on what to change in 2020. (I don’t set any goals “in stone” until well after Jan. 1st, but more about that in a later blog post.)

Here are some good practices to establish this fall, if you’re looking to work more in-tune with the seasons:

Fall’s Themes: Harvest, Gratitude + “Death”

Let. It. Go. Celebrate your wins or “harvest.” Share the wealth (i.e. show your “thanks” to clients and coworkers), honor your hard work (treat yourself!) and reflect on where you can improve.

Similar to springtime, the fall offers a great opportunity to do some major cleanup and purging. Get rid of processes that no longer serve you, or clients or projects that aren’t worth your time. Physically clear out clutter in your office, desk and home. Make way for the fresh ideas that will come to you in winter.

Journaling Questions to Ask Yourself:

– What are my biggest accomplishments from this year?

– Where did I “miss the mark,” and how or what can I improve next year?

– What am I “harvesting” right now, or what is the reward I can offer myself for a year’s worth of hard work?

– What am I most grateful for in work and life?
