If you’re looking to up-level your email strategy you’ll want to take note of these five quick tips for greater success.

  1. Your Email Blasts Are NOT Advertisements…

…They are a chance to build and nurture relationships with your customers. As an extension of your content marketing strategy, emails should be used to answer FAQ’s, fix customer pain points, offer discounts and loyalty benefits, and give valuable insight on tips and tricks for your product or industry.

  1. Segmentation Is Your Best Friend

When people sign up to your email list, it’s for a reason. Did they download a freebie you created? Decide to join during purchase? Whatever the motivation, increase engagement by keeping track of their interests in your audience segmentation and then creating different emails for these segments.

  1. Retarget On Facebook

By working with a savvy online ads strategist, you can leverage your email list and retarget that audience with Facebook ads. If you have at least 100 people on your email list, an ads expert can help you create a lookalike audience on Facebook.

  1. Schedule Emails Ahead Of Time—At The Right Time

You might be so excited after putting together a killer e-blast that you just want to hit “SEND” right away, but don’t! When it comes to opens and engagement numbers, the best time to schedule and send an e-blast is 10 a.m. on Tuesdays. The second-best time is 4 p.m. on Thursdays.

  1. Don’t Get Caught In SPAM Filters

I am guilty of using the combination of question mark and exclamation point when I really want to emphasize a question, like, “Don’t you just LOVE this song?!” Sure, it’s not grammatically correct, but who cares? Sometimes it’s fun to break the rules. But when it comes to e-blasts, this is one rule you’ll want to follow: Don’t use questions marks and/or exclamation points together in a subject line—doing so could automatically send your emails into the SPAM filter. So, “!!!” or “???” or “?!” are all a no-go.
