At Thrive, we believe that stories–especially the ones that have been historically overlooked–can change lives, spark connection, and shift culture. Pride Month is a powerful opportunity to seek out LGBTQIA+ voices, reflect on the diversity of lived experiences within the community, and champion creators who’ve been shaping hearts and movements for generations.

Whether you’re deepening your allyship, exploring your own identity, or simply looking to expand your media diet with more authentic queer perspectives, we’ve curated a thoughtful, intersectional list of books, podcasts, and voices worth amplifying–not just this month, but all year long.
📚 Books That Stay With You
1. Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters
A sharp, funny, and emotionally layered novel that explores gender, motherhood, and messy relationships in the trans community. It’s as challenging as it is tender–and impossible to put down.
2. All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
This “memoir-manifesto” combines personal storytelling with cultural commentary, giving voice to the complexities of growing up Black and queer in America. It’s become a modern essential.
3. The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr.
A gorgeously written, haunting novel set on a Southern plantation, where two enslaved men fall in love. Jones weaves history and mythology into a narrative that is as radical as it is sacred.
4. Nepantla: An Anthology Dedicated to Queer Poets of Color
Published by Nightboat Books in collaboration with Lambda Literary, this anthology is a vibrant, necessary collection featuring Audre Lorde, Justin Phillip Reed, Natalie Diaz, and more.
5. The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson
Nelson blurs the line between memoir and theory in this dazzling exploration of queer family-making, language, and love. For anyone who thrives in the in-between.
🎧 Podcasts That Expand Perspective
1. Making Gay History
Using rare archival interviews, this podcast brings LGBTQIA+ history to life by highlighting activists, icons, and everyday people whose courage shaped the movement.

3. Queery with Cameron Esposito
Insightful, funny, and intimate interviews with LGBTQ+ luminaries–from artists to academics to activists. Esposito’s wit and warmth keep things grounded and real.
4. Nancy (Archived, but still worth the binge)
Though no longer producing new episodes, Nancy remains a podcast goldmine. Hosts Kathy Tu and Tobin Low dive into everything from pop culture to coming out with a joyful, unfiltered lens.
5. Sibling Rivalry with Bob the Drag Queen and Monet X Change
If you want pure queer joy, unapologetic opinions, and big laughs–this is it. Two powerhouse drag queens talk about life, politics, and each other with signature flair.

Let’s Go Beyond the Rainbow
Pride isn’t a product, a parade, or a post. It’s a lifelong commitment to equity, visibility, and collective joy. This month, we’re choosing to celebrate by listening deeply, reading widely, and sharing generously.
We encourage you to take this list, start conversations, support these creators, and–if you’re able–buy from queer-owned bookstores, support independent presses, and donate to LGBTQIA+ nonprofits. (A few to consider: The Okra Project, For the Gworls, Transgender Law Center.)
If you’ve got a favorite book, podcast, or voice to share, send them our way. We’d love to hear what’s moved you.
Let’s keep amplifying. Let’s keep thriving.
